Use this tool to add tone marks to pinyin or to convert tone number (e.g. hao3) to tone marks.

Although you can use the red buttons to add tone marks, we highly recommend you use the number method (e.g. hao3) for speed and placement of the accent above the correct vowel. [Hint: Type "v" for "ü"]
Note: You do not need to use this tool to enter pinyin in this dictionary.

Study

使 (shǐ), along with 让 (ràng), 叫 (jiào), and 请 (qǐng) are all causative verbs, meaning they ‘cause’ or influence someone to do something.

使 is used to express ‘make’ in formal or written Chinese, whereas we use 让 in spoken Chinese.

Use the sentence pattern,

Subject + [Causative Verb] + Person + Predicate

For example,

高烧可使人产生幻觉。High temperatures can cause hallucinations.
