To express how something ‘appears’, use the phrase 看起来.
Use the pattern,
Subject + 看起来 + Adjective
For example,
这家餐厅看起来不错。 This restaurant looks good.
You can also use it to express what something looks like by adding 像 followed by a noun phrase.
For example,
你的妈妈看起来像你姐姐。 Your mom looks like your older sister.
