A: Welcome back to Episode 10 of Scavenger Sunday, the videos series where YOU get to share your videos, photos and drawings with us!

A: This week we’re talking about the 工 character.
N: This is a great character to know because it’s used in many commonly used bigrams.
A: Yeah, thats right. 工 means work or skill, so when it combined with another character you can often tell that the meaning is ‘work’ related.
N: Yeah, for example: 工作 means job or work, 工业 means industry.
A: When you meet up with your friends you can ask them, 最近你工作怎么样？ Which means ‘How is work going?’
N: Allen 最近你工作怎么样？
A: Hmmm, thats a good question. 工作很忙， 但是我很喜欢 Which means, ‘Work is very busy, but I like it that way’
N: So how about your colleagues? Do you get on with them?
A:….um… only joking
N:So anyway, lets take a look at the photos and videos and actually this week we got a really cool video from one of our fans’ daughter who is speaking Chinese in the video so keep your eyes open for that one, we’d love to see more of that…so let’s watch!

N: Yeah, and this week we just started a new addition to the online dictionary, so when you look up a word in the online dictionary you can click on the ‘learn more’ button underneath the word and it will go to a page where you can comment and put your photos there too so it’s kind of a liiving, breathing Chinese dictionary. So get on there and start contributing to the community and learn from others on the new Chinese dictionary at dictionary.writtenchinese.com

N: OK, our next character is 上.
A: 上 means up or above, this is another character you’ll find commonly used in a bigram.
N: Allen, can you show us how to find and write the character using our dictionary app?
A: Sure, here we go
A: Hey everyone, this is Allen and I’m going to show you how to write the 上 character using the WCC Chinese Dictionary app. You can find it on the app store by searching WCC Dictionary as a keyword or go to our site at www.writtenchinese.com/apps. As I explained before, 上 means up or above, so I think you can search in English or Chinese. So just search UP in the search box and then you can see the top three characters and the top three bigrams. The 上 character is the second character, tap it and on this page you can see many pieces of information about the 上 character. If you’ve downloaded the free example sentences you can check them out. So tap the ‘writing’ button then you will see the 上 character stroke animation.So that’s the 上 character. Thanks guys!
