Use this tool to add tone marks to pinyin or to convert tone number (e.g. hao3) to tone marks.

Although you can use the red buttons to add tone marks, we highly recommend you use the number method (e.g. hao3) for speed and placement of the accent above the correct vowel. [Hint: Type "v" for "ü"]
Note: You do not need to use this tool to enter pinyin in this dictionary.

(Click on each of the Chinese words below to take a look.)

房间 – room

非常 – unusual/extraordinary/extreme

服务员 – waiter/waitress

– high/tall

告诉 – to tell/inform

Study

In Chinese, nouns are linked to other nouns with 是 and linked to adjectives with 很. You may also have come across 很 as meaning ‘very’. However, in the above situation, it is just a link between a noun and an adjective.

To actually say ‘very’ in a sentence, then use 非常.

For example,

他非常高

He’s very tall.
