Use this tool to add tone marks to pinyin or to convert tone number (e.g. hao3) to tone marks.

Although you can use the red buttons to add tone marks, we highly recommend you use the number method (e.g. hao3) for speed and placement of the accent above the correct vowel. [Hint: Type "v" for "ü"]
Note: You do not need to use this tool to enter pinyin in this dictionary.

Study

Other than 旧, You may have come across another character for ‘old’, 老.

What’s the difference?

老 is used to describe ‘age’ or ‘aged’, most often of a living thing. 旧 can be used for inanimate objects.

For example,

旧时代 means ‘bygone times’.

It can also be used to express ‘worn’ or used items, such as 买旧的 meaning to buy second hand. A more literal translation of second hand is ‘二手’
